Day 21

While always a big "flag" town, this year I'm noticing a lot of buntings in Islip...

Day 20

And on many of those beaches, we have flying deer! Watch out!

Day 19

A little quiet on the beach front today...big boomers coming through all day...

Day 18

So, why is this house "charming" when it gets all overgrown like this, and mine is just an "eyesore"??

Day 17

Is it just me, or do houseboats always look homemade? Do they not sell ready-made houseboats??

Day 16

I was busy with a model shoot tonight and wasn't able to get out for Islip photos today, so this is from a couple days ago...

This gentleman was practicing his fly-casting? Is that the name for the thing where you sort of snake your line forward and back forward and back before casting it out? It was sort of hypnotic just watching the line back forth back forth, thwp into the water.

Day 14

Day 13

When I was little, my mother would always say, at the end of our car errands, "want to go for the tour?" And this meant, did I want to drive around and look at houses. We would drive to different areas and critique the houses...and I never outgrew my love for doing that. I still love driving around looking at houses.

I've always thought this was house was cute and homey...

Day 12

A bit of a cheat today...doing the at-least-once obligatory google maps map of where Islip is located...on the south shore, about the middle of the island, lengthwise. Islip is quite small, only 5.8 square miles...but i guess they're really packin'em in, cuz the population's almost 21,000. Which seems almost impossible in such a small area...and yet??

Day 11

A peaceful moment at the end of the day...

Day 10

"The church is near, but the road is icy. The bar is far away, but I will walk carefully" ~ Russian proverb

Day 9

I really don't MEAN for there to be a trash theme...and yet...? I'm back to trash :-) I just couldn't resist this seagull, so determined to get whatever what was in that trash, OUT.
And just to make this more inspirational than...trashy...

Day 8

So...what is this about? I seem to have in my head that some folks on South Bay were not happy that someone on their street was doing in-home day care? So a bunch of people stuck these signs on their lawns? But it seems like I've been seeing the signs for a really long time, like at least a year. So...what happened? What's this about?

Day 6

Oops, already missed a day. It's gonna be a long year!

So, today you get two to make up for yesterday. Which version is more interesting??

Day 5

I used to live here. It's funny...I lived there for 14 months, 13 years ago...and yet I still feel like The New People are living in MY HOUSE. I really bonded with that house. But the upkeep put such a strain on my marriage, that we sold after living there for just a year. We bought a much smaller Craftsman style home, way cheap. The marriage didn't survive, he only lived in the current house for three years. I've been here ten years without him. Amazing. Time. Right? But I still feel a bond with the old house.

Day 2

Sometimes I forget that Islip is a waterfront town. I so rarely have time to enjoy that part. But this evening was lovely...hot and humid and sunny...and the dog and I took a drive around....

Day 1

Okay, so I've lived in Islip (for you non Islipians, Islip is in Suffolk County, on the south shore of Long Island, NY) 15 years, and Central Islip for the 5 years before that. Suffice it to say, I've been in Islip a Long Time. Next year the child will (knock on wood) graduate from high school and go away to college...and *I* may leave Islip. So, since this may be my last
year here, I thought I would do a 365-day photo journal of All Things Islip. I don't think I'll label the photos - it's up to you to know/guess where they are. Feel free to leave comments.
